JR is our Head brewer, founder, graphic designer, photographer, and a myriad of other things that is takes to run a brewery. He is never without words and is often described as intense and obsessive, but in a good way. He truly believes that you are always a student to your craft which is why he doesn’t use the term “brewmaster.” When you ask him what South County means he’ll reply, “it’s a way of life.”

Mike started as a home brewer and brought his beer to a brewfest to share and his wares caught our attention. He is a tech nerd through and through! He loves video games, Black Sabbath, beer and whiskey and if something around the brewery is weird, it usually has to do with Mike. He handles many of the cellar tasks and brews nearly all of our small batch test beers.

James graduated from York College of Pennsylvania with a degree in Public Relations and was determined to get a job in beer. He volunteered at several area beer events before bumping into our founder and was hired shortly after. You will find James selling beer, canning, manning the taproom and sampling beer at brewfests as well as hopping rock formations in the Susquehanna River.

Steve is a traveler, craft beer enthusiast and musician. He holds down the taproom from time to time and is a blast to be around.

  • Jen Heaps - Events/Marketing

Jen is the wife of our Founder/head brewer, an avid dog lover, amazing cook and all around beer nut. Seriously her palate is second to none.  She is key in our marketing development and merchandise design. Jen also oversees event coordination, taproom coverage and brew fest representation.

History of How we Got Here

Our Founder and Head Brewer, JR Heaps, worked in historic restoration prior to running a brewery. When the markets imploded in 2008 the restoration business fell to the same fate. This event drove JR to take his passion of brewing and his mild obsession with the technical side of beer industry and turn it into the real thing. He spent nearly 3 years planning, brewing, apprenticing and prepping to open the brewery. Construction started in January of 2010. During that time he had to convince the town of Fawn Grove that a brewery was worth having. This required obtaining variances and zoning exceptions in order to legally open a brewery, which wasn't even listed in the town's ordinance. 18 months later, the brewery opened in July of 2011. We have grown quite a bit since then. From our first 5 barrel system, cobbled together from old British pub tanks, to our new 15 barrel steam brew house and cellar field of 15 and 30 Barrel tanks. We currently distribute to South Central Pennsylvania and a few counties in Maryland. We also a have a great taproom with several beers on tap, guest wine and beer to go.
